In the fourth of his series of podcasts dedicated to Pro Tools for the Mac, Chris Gilland uses this powerful and feature-packed audio production application to liven up the vocal track that was created in the previous podcast.

Chris shows us how to use a couple of plugins to put on a few inserts - he adds some extremely basic EQ, a little reverb to the vocals to give it a nice kind of wet sound so that it's not so bland/dry, and then cleans up the vocals a bit with some very light to almost none, pitch correction with a 3rd party plugin that does not come preinstalled with Pro Tools.

At the very end of this recording, Chris plays back the entire session with his microphone muted, so that you really can get a good feel for what we've done so far in this series.

Depending upon the popularity of these podcasts, Chris anticipates covering some very advanced topics as the series progresses. He emphasises that he intends to take it very nice and slow, as there will be a lot to cover in this series.

This is a fantastic app. Before I used it I relied on useless minicab companies whose drivers knew nothing about where they are and were great at dropping me off very late for important appointments, or ended up getting lost coming out of the tube in unfamiliar areas and relying on people to hail a black cab for me. But wherever you are, Hailo locates you and tells you how many minutes away the nearest black cab is and once you've confirmed the booking you can track it as it approaches. You can tap a button to phone the driver too so you can warn him that you won't see him when he pulls up. You pay the same rate that you would do if you'd have hailed a taxi in the street. It's fantastic and there's no waiting around for those radio-controlled services.

Hi,
The below message is a copy of one I sent to the Jaws users list in relation to QuickTime settings with Jaws. Hope I can get some advice on this.
"I have tried to set the file associations differently in QuickTime running Jaws 14, under windows 7 64 bit so that files that I stream won’t open like a web page without a player, in other words, handled by QuickTime and/or iTunes. How can I change this setting? I have tried under mime settings in the preferences section, but I can’t even check any boxes to attempt changes to the settings."

Just a couple of suggestions that might make the site more easy to use:

1) Have a link to your Advanced Search immediately following the basic search box that appears at the top of every AppleVis page.

2) Add a filter in Advanced Search where it only looks for your search terms in the *Title* of a particular app. (When I searched for "Facebook", looking for the official Facebook app, I got *tons* of results that were not that app because they had "Facebook" somewhere in the description but not necessarily in the title.)

Other Comments

The official TeamSpeak app for the iPhone, allowing it to use the great and well known TeamSpeak network right from your iPhone. This version has one critical bug which disturbs me very much. It just stops working after you switched from headset to speaker or the other way around, so you need to kill it via the App Manager.

I recently ran into a situation I wanted to tell you guys about, and maybe the iTunes experts have an answer for me that I've not found yet. I wanted to add a custom ringtone to my iPhone. I looked on here and tried out Rmaker but couldn't really make heads or tales out of it. I've been told by several people that if you create a ringtone in the .m4r extention, and import it into iTunes and sync, the ringtone should be added and become a working ringtone on your phone. Well, as is usually the case, what should happen, and what does happen are 2 different things. I made a ringtone lasting 25 seconds long, and converted it to the .m4r format and imported it into iTunes successfully. It shows up in the ringtones playlist, so that's all taken care of. The trouble starts when I sync. Due to a bizarre story involving a stupid Verizon store representative that is too long to post here, the upshot is that my phone was accidentally plugged into, and synched on my friend's computer. He was given my phone, I got his and we had to switch. So now, iTunes doesn't recognize my library. I've been told by a few folks that the only way to get the custom-made ringtone onto this phone is to restore it and re-download everything and start over...and I am not about to do all that, simply to add a silly ringtone! I simply don't have that kind of time or patience. It's funny because when I plug my phone into the pc, it's recognized, I can even see it in the sources list and I can see all the associated playlists. So everything shows up just fine. So, iTunes experts, help me out here? I just want to put this ringtone on this phone without having to do a bunch of extra things. Any thoughts of what I can do would be appreciated! It's a ringtone so I'm not about to rip apart and start over, but if I can do it, I'd like to.

Surely, at least some of you have encountered the following situation. Your sighted relative/friend wants to know how to do this or that on their iPhone. You try to explain it to them and they say, "I don't see anywhere." You finally come to realize that your verbal VoiceOver representation is, for them, some graphical symbol or other which you can't see.

How do you guys help the sighted person figure out their phone in those situations? Is there anywhere where I can find explanations ofthe graphical symbols and their locations onscreen that are represented by verbal VoiceOver cues?

Lightning cable dies for no reason

I had a lightning cable for my iPhone 5 and it worked great for a long time. I'd either keep it plugged into AC power, or when I needed to sync I'd plug it into the USB port on my pc in the usual way. But yesterday, I found myself having to use the cable on another pc, and after I used it on that one, the cable quit working. I saw this happen when I used a lightning cable on an external battery pack I have. It seems like the very act of plugging the cable into another pc or device other than my own kills the cable, and at almost 20 bucks each, it's kind of expensive to replace. I did end up getting a replacement one but I'd like to keep this one for a good long time. Has anyone else ever heard of this happening? To me, plugging a cable into a different pc or device like an external battery pack should not short out the cable, if that's what's happening. if anyone has any thoughts i'd be interested to know what they are. Thanks!

fully accessible, one slight issue exists with the seek bar for adjusting playback position in a file.
You have to tap and hold on the slider in order for it to respond with VoiceOver, I have told the developer about this and he seems receptive to fixing this.
There is also a button on the screen for when audio is playing, it is labeled as star and is dimmed, the developer told me it is to do with selecting particular audio tracks in videos or selecting tracks in flack files with q sheets.
Apart from this all other controls seem clearly labeled.
I just took a look in the subtitles menu under settings, and there is also something strange there, there is a button called increment,
but if you flick to the right of that there is something which reads as the letters a-z all scrambled together and the numbers 0-9 nothing happens if you tap on this, so I don't know what this feature is for.
I will also let the developer know about this after he replies to my last email.
